July Monthly Membership Meeting

  • NAACP SANTA CRUZ BRANCH PO BOX 1433 SANTA CRUZ, CA 95061 UNITED STATES (map)

NAACP Santa Cruz County will welcome lifelong civil rights champion Maria Gitin as speaker at the July member meeting. She is author of This Bright Light of Ours: Stories from the Voting Rights Fight (University of Alabama Press) based on her experience as a teenage civil rights field worker in Alabama. Maria Gitin has continued to work for racial justice and to register voters in diverse communities for more than five decades.

The meeting will be Monday, July 7, beginning at 7 pm.

Please join NAACP Santa Cruz County Branch on Monday, July 7th, for a provocative conversation with Maria Gitin about the history and current challenges to voting rights and their impact on combating racism, sexism, homophobia, and xenophobia.

Since January, the Trump administration has undertaken a relentless campaign to dismantle the civil rights advancements of the past century. Their objective appears to be the restoration of outdated race, gender, religious, and social hierarchies, as well as a return to the economic and legal privileges for the wealthy and powerful reminiscent of the "Gilded Age."

The NAACP is committed to defending democracy through education, litigation, and advocacy.
